It is the most monumental area in the district, in which we find six
municipalities declared of Historical-artistic interest. Towns highlighted
by their medieval architecture and by the indelible prints that history
has left in them.
We begin our journey with Tronchón, municipality of great monumental
value and also known by its handmade cheeses of great quality. Later on,
we will visit Mirambel, town declared historical-artistic Group and award-winning
with the prize Europa Nostra in 1981. This municipality it´s totally
walled and we can access to the interior of the fortification by 5 portals,
in its interior we find a perfectly conserved medieval town centre. Following
the itinerary, we will visit Cantavieja, emblematic town for its location
on a rock and for its historical weight in the district. From its medieval
town centre, we will highlight the "Plaza Mayor" with its raised
porch, formed by big arches belonging to the town council buildings and
"La iglesia Mayor de la Asunción". Next we will visit
La Iglesuela del Cid, medieval municipality that, in its architecture,
offers us a clear image of the dominion that inhabited the Maestrazgo
during the Half Age, like it is perceived in its big ancestral large houses.
Later on and crossing the leafy pine groves, we find Mosqueruela and Puertomingalvo,
municipalities highlighted by their towns centres of great monumental
value, with medieval architectural characteristics, similar to the rest
of the towns of the area, where the stone, the forge and the wood are
the big main characters.
